Gold, Precision, Impact: Elevating the 958 Collection with Premium Rotogravure Sleeves

Gold, Precision, Impact: Elevating the 958 Collection with Premium Rotogravure Sleeves

In the premium Wine & Spirits segment, brands face increasing pressure to stand out through distinctive aesthetics, sensory‑rich finishes, and consistently high‑quality decoration. Shrink sleeves have become a strategic choice: they provide 360° coverage, high‑impact graphics, and premium effects that elevate brand perception. However, these applications pose significant challenges—especially for sparkling wines—due to complex bottle geometries, the need for perfect shrink consistency, and the difficulty of maintaining metallic brilliance, dense color masses, and micro‑detail stability after the heat‑shrink process.

At All4Labels, we addressed these demands through our Center of Excellence in Schio, a facility 100% dedicated to sleeve production and built on nearly thirty years of expertise. Equipped with state‑of‑the‑art rotogravure and combined printing technologies, the site delivers high‑definition metallics, uniform large backgrounds, deep blacks, matte/gloss and soft‑touch contrasts, and controlled transparency—solutions engineered for premium wines and sparkling wines.
This specialization reinforces further our positioning as a trusted partner for premium sleeve innovation.

The Challenge

Santero set out to enhance its iconic 958 Gold Baby 20 cl bottle with a fully wrapped premium sleeve capable of replicating the high‑end impact of hot‑foil metallics.

The objective required achieving:

  • A brilliant, intense gold metallized surface, comparable to real foil.
  • Flawless graphic definition with no distortions on a small bottle subject to strong shrinkage.
  • Color stability and brilliance after heat exposure during the shrink process.
  • A refined visual and tactile contrast using a controlled matte varnish.

Working on a PET shrink film added complexity, as metallic pigments and micro‑details are typically sensitive to heat and deformation. The challenge was to maintain precision, brilliance, and consistency across the entire 360° decoration.

The Collaboration

As trusted service partner for our customers, we supported Santero from the earliest design stages through a structured co‑development process, where our technical specialists and artwork management team worked in close alignment. The collaboration involved both the creative and engineering departments to refine artwork files, adjust shrink parameters, and ensure optimal print and color performance. This integrated approach enabled early identification of potential risks, definition of shared solutions, and a final result that fully reflected the brand’s intended visual impact.

Santero’s expectations were therefore centered on a set of highly technical requirements and premium‑level performance standards, seeking solutions capable of combining visual impact, industrial reliability, and strict aesthetic control:

  • Custom gold metallized ink development, engineered specifically for rotogravure on heat‑shrinkable PET with high pigment concentration and mechanical resistance.
  • Optimization of printing curves through a 6‑color rotogravure configuration plus matte varnish, calibrated to maintain brilliance without sacrificing micro‑detail.
  • Shrinkage simulation and mapping to ensure uniformity across the bottle’s curved and high‑retraction zones.
  • Creative–technical alignment between Santero’s desired aesthetic and All4Labels’ capability to translate premium effects into industrial reliability.

This synergy made it possible to turn an ambitious visual concept into a stable, scalable, high‑impact solution.

The Outcome

The collaboration delivered a premium sleeve perfectly aligned with the identity of the 958 line:

  • A luminous, intense gold surface, comparable to foil‑based effects.
  • Seamless 360° decoration with no loss of detail, even in areas of maximum shrink.
  • Elegant material contrast through precise matte varnishing.
  • A distinctive and high‑visibility bottle, strengthening Santero’s premium positioning.

The project stands today as a reference for premium rotogravure sleeve excellence in the Wine & Spirits industry.

“All4Labels translated our vision into a truly iconic result, achieving a level of brilliance and precision that exceeded expectations, especially on such a small-format bottle.”
